What does a tortoise have to do with FIRE?

You may have noticed a few tortoises doted around on this web site. I often refer to myself as a tortoise not because I am old and wrinkly (though I am no spring chicken), but because when it comes to achieving goals I am more like a tortoise than a hare.

I also recognise that financial independence is a long-term play and as such, needs a long-term mind set. For me this starts by defining what I want to achieve and how I am going to get there. After this it’s just a matter of creating great habits, setting interim goals (to keep me motivated) and then plodding on much like a tortoise.

While some of my businesses friends operate on a ‘done is better than perfect’ basis, I would rather take a little more time and be happy with a product or service before launch. As the saying goes ‘You only get one chance to make a first impression’. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a perfectionist but I am not keen on doing things twice.
